Working holidays

  • Conservation at Allen Banks

    Sat 15 – Sat 22 Mar 2014: Help to manage the countryside. This could be removing rhododendron from ancient woodland, managing a special area of conservation, practical maintenance or woodland management tasks. There will be an opportunity to explore the beautiful surroundings.

  • Archaeological conservation

    Sat 26 April - Sat 3 May 2014: Help to restore two Roman wells near Housesteads Fort, learn how to monitor the scheduled ancient monuments to protect them and try some surveying techniques with our archaeologist, helping to protect an iconic World Heritage Site.

  • Countryside Ranger family holiday

    Mon 4 - Thurs 7 August 2014: Come and see what it’s like to be a Ranger on this short working holiday (3 days) for families. Each day there will be conservation and fun Bushcraft activities in the beautiful wooded gorge of Allen Banks. You’re bound to see lots of wildlife and be able to enjoy time as a family while staying at Ridley Hall.

  • Photography & conservation (all 3 sites)

    Sat 11 – Sat 18 October 2014: Help us manage the land in our care by combining your passion for photography and conservation. You will learn techniques with professional photographer Daniel Lane while also maintaining beautiful landscapes and important habitats.

  • Woodland conservation & charcoal making

    Sat 14 – Sat 21 March 2015: Work with the team at Allen Banks to help manage our woodlands by removing rhododendron from our ancient semi natural woodland. You can learn about small scale charcoal burning and have a go and learn some bushcraft skills.
