An inspiration for Downton's Lady Grantham
Mary Leiter, later known as Baroness Curzon of Kedleston after marrying Sir Nathaniel Curzon, was the inspiration behind Downton's character Lady Grantham.
Mary Leiter used to live at Kedleston Hall as Lord Curzon’s (Viceroy of India) wife. The Curzon family have lived at Kedleston Hall since the 12th century and continue to live here today.
Filming of 'The Duchess'
In autumn 2007, Kedleston Hall experienced a taste of Hollywood magic when 'The Duchess' film crew selected the property to film a range of stunning scenes from the period blockbuster.
Kedleston was perfect to depict three key locations; the Spencer family home in Althorp, Devonshire House in London and a rented villa in Bath.
