Situated at the head of the majestic Great Langdale Valley and guarded by the dominating Langdale Pikes, this campsite is a walker's and climber's dream come true.
Fell walking routes include Bowfell, Crinkle Crags, the Langdale Pikes and England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike. Raven Crag, Gimmer Crag and White Ghyll are just a few of the numerous rock climbing spots which line the valley floor, providing some of the most spectacular rock routes in the UK.
Gentler walks may lead you over Lingmoor into Little Langdale or eastwards along the valley floor into the wooded areas around the picturesque valley of Elterwater. For more walking and climbing information, see our frequently asked questions or go to our links page.

Met Office Severe Gale Warning
In the event of a Met Office severe gale warning, some areas of the campsite will be closed for safety reasons. Campers wishing to remain on site will be asked to move into the designated safety zone, provided that there is space available. Please note that these designated areas can accommodate only 50 tent pitches and 15 campervans.

Great Langdale Campsite is blessed with three great Lakeland inns within easy walking distance. Ambleside, with its cinema, museum, host of outdoor equipment shops and great restaurants is just a short drive away, as are Hawkshead and Grasmere, two of the prettiest Lakeland villages.
How to get there
By car: From Ambleside, follow the A593 road. At Skelwith Bridge, Turn right onto the B5343. The campsite is approximately 6 miles down this road on the left just before you reach the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel.
