From the car park walk into the village, crossing the beck to the right of Malham Smithy.


Turn right and follow the beck away from the village, along a well-made gravel pathway.

Turn left at the signpost to Janet's Foss and follow this stone-flagged path, with the beck to your right.

On entering the National Trust woodland leading up to Janet's Foss waterfall, the ground becomes very uneven and rocky - watch your step!

How to get here

Settle, North Yorkshire, BD24 9PT
By train

Settle station 7 miles (11.3km) away and Skipton station 19 miles (30.6km) away.

By road

From Skipton, take the A65 to Gargrave, then follow signs to Malham; from Settle, follow signs to Langcliffe or Malham; a minor road crosses the Malham Tarn estate to the north of Malham Tarn – join it from the B6160 below Kettlewell.

By foot

The Pennine Way passes through the estate for 6 miles (9.7km) from north to south.

By bus

From Skipton: 210/211 and 883/884 (passing close Skipton , w/e, to Malham village only); from Settle: 580/210 (to Malham village only). Also, National Trust shuttle bus service (890), Settle-Malham Tarn, Easter-Oct, w/e only for timetables visit Dalesbus

By bicycle

Malham village lies on the Yorkshire Dales Cycleway, a signed on-road cycle route which passes from Airton (2½ miles/4km) in the south to Stainforth and Settle (7½ and 6½ miles/12km and 10.5km) in the east; it links with the Pennine Cycleway, National Cycle Network route 68, which goes from Derby to Berwick-upon-Tweed
