New membership queries

When I join, what will I receive and by when?

When you join online you will receive a temporary membership card by email to use until your welcome pack arrives in 3-4 weeks. This pack contains your membership cards (one for each adult; children are admitted on adult cards) and a handbook containing a car parking sticker inside the front cover.

Can I add more than two adults to a membership?

Yes you can, but not on our website. If you wish to set up a membership with more than two adults please contact us.

Where is a gift membership sent?

You can choose to have the membership welcome pack and cards delivered either to you or to the recipient with a letter explaining that the membership is a gift from you.

Can I buy a gift membership today but have it start at a date in the future?

You can choose for your gift membership to start today or any day within the next 3 months. The welcome pack will arrive in the next 3-4 weeks.

When will a gift membership arrive?

The welcome pack will arrive in 3-4 weeks, even if you choose to have the membership start at a future date. When you buy a membership online, if it is due to start within the next 21 days, you will receive a temporary membership card by email which you can pass on to the gift recipient for use until the welcome pack arrives.

Can I pay monthly, but for fewer than 12 months?

No. A National Trust membership is an annual subscription for which you can choose to pay in monthly instalments.

Where can I use my card?

As well as England, Wales and Northern Ireland, you can use your National Trust membership card in 14 other countries, including Scotland.

Please see more information on overseas organisations and Scotland.

Senior memberships

As a charity supported by its members, the Trust does not provide a universal concession for pensioner visitors or members. However, in recognition of the loyalty of certain older members, we do offer a discount on renewal of membership to those members aged 60 and over, who have been a member for at least 5 years in the last 10. Our senior members benefit from the very lowest adult prices we offer, paying 25% less than the full rate.

Email the Supporter Services Centre

There has been some recent media coverage about the percentage increases in our membership rates for seniors. Over the last five years, the average annual increase has been £2.12 per senior member. This is less than the price of a cup of coffee on the high street. The discount costs the Trust over £11 million in lost income but we believe it is right to reward our members’ loyalty in this way. Not all our members who are eligible for the discount decide to take advantage of it. Many choose to pay the full rate as a way of further supporting the Trust’s conservation work.

If I give you my personal details, what will you do with them?

Can I get in without my card?

Without your card, you may be asked to pay an admission fee. Annual and life members can return their admission tickets in exchange for some Trust vouchers, less an admin fee. For queries about how card scanning works for you, please see our scanning your membership card page.

Where’s my parking sticker and when will I receive a new one?

Your parking sticker is located inside the front cover of the handbook. You will receive a new handbook and parking sticker in January.

Can I pay for my membership renewal by cheque?

Yes, you can, but please write your supporter number (found on your membership card) on the back of the cheque and, along with the remittance slip found on the bottom of your renewal letter, please post to the Supporter Services Centre in the envelope provided.
