We apologise for any disappointment to visitors. Weds 17 - Sun 21 December 2014 Last entry to the castle: 3.20pm. Castle closes at 3.50pm. Week commencing Monday 22 December 2014 Weather permitting, last entry to the castle this week will be at 3.20pm. The castle will close at 3.50pm. This is a change to the published opening times due to the low light levels at this time of the year in the late afternoon. Our car park gates will close at 5.30pm.

Archetypal 14th century moated castle with ruined interior - a glimpse of medieval splendour

Set in the heart of an historic landscape, with spiral staircases, battlements and a portcullis, 14th century Bodiam Castle is one of Britain's most picturesque and romantic ancient monuments. Windows where arrows were once fired, a tower that was once a look-out and ruins that were once walked upon by knights; this is a place where you can relive your childhood memories and let your imagination run riot.

In the impressive gatehouse is the castle's original wooden portcullis, an extremely rare example of its kind. Enough of the interior ruins survive to give an impression of castle life and gruesome and surprising tales can often be heard from our miller's wife, forester and other colourful characters from the past. Plus we have lots of seasonal events throughout the year.

Father Christmas will be visiting the castle during December and will be pleased to meet with good boys and girls. Join our medieval characters to find out about Christmas traditions old and new and enjoy a wassail cup and mince pie before you visit Father Christmas' grotto.  We still have spaces available for all dates, to book call 01580 831324.

Our Castle Gift Shop now has an excellent range of Christmas decorations, gifts, calendars and diaries on sale, including Chistmas cards on offer at 3 packs for the price of 2.  Our sales team has a wealth of experience and they'd be happy to help you with suggestions for that special present for your Grandma, uncle or niece.

Our shop is open daily from 10.30am to 5pm and conveniently situated next door to our Wharf Tea Room so you can have that well earned cup of tea or coffee after you've finished your shopping.
