Archetypal 14th century moated castle with ruined interior - a glimpse of medieval splendour

Set in the heart of an historic landscape, with spiral staircases, battlements and a portcullis, 14th century Bodiam Castle is one of Britain's most picturesque and romantic ancient monuments. Windows where arrows were once fired, a tower that was once a look-out and ruins that were once walked upon by knights; this is a place where you can relive your childhood memories and let your imagination run riot.

In the impressive gatehouse is the castle's original wooden portcullis, an extremely rare example of its kind. Enough of the interior ruins survive to give an impression of castle life and gruesome and surprising tales can often be heard from our miller's wife, forester and other colourful characters from the past. Plus we have lots of seasonal events throughout the year.

Bank Holiday Monday hog roast from 12.00 noon

Join us this Bank Holiday Monday for a delicious hog roast provided by local butchers, H W Coldbreath.

Pick up a mouth-watering pork bun with heaps of crispy crackling, team it with a steaming hot cup of tea or coffee from our Castle View coffee shop, and sit on your picnic rug to enjoy.  Available from opposite the castle, your picnic will have one of the best views of the castle.  Castle and grounds admission charges apply.

Building Bodiam   25 July - 2 Sept 2015

This weekend sees the last few days of Building Bodiam.  Visit our medieval tented village and watch Ash the Armourer and Dave the coin maker busy at work.  You can even have a go at making your own Bodiam coin.

Our cooks will be preparing a splendid feast for the men and women and Sir Edward's men at arms will be mustering and drilling throughout the weekend.

Panasonic roadshow

Capture your visit to Bodiam on one of the latest Panasonic Lumix cameras.  Experts will be here this weekend to loan you a camera, give you advice and allow you to take an SD card home with your pictures.  There'll also be the opportunity to get discount on some Panasonic products.  A credit card will be required to secure the loan of a camera.
