Notice: April 2014: restricted car parking Please be aware that following flooding earlier in the spring our car park is still not quite up to full capacity. We will endeavour to park cars as quickly and efficiently as possible but during busy periods there may be a short delay whilst we find you a space and we may, in exceptional circumstances, need to ask visitors to return later in the day to park. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Archetypal 14th-century moated castle with ruined interior - a glimpse of medieval splendour
This fairytale castle is one of Britain's most romantic and picturesque, set in the heart of 1066 country. With spiral staircases, battlements and a portcullis, 14th-century Bodiam Castle is the real thing. Windows where arrows were once fired, a tower that was once a look-out and ruins that were once walked upon by knights; this is a place where you can relive your childhood memories and let your imagination run riot.
In the impressive gatehouse is the castle's original wooden portcullis, an extremely rare example of its kind. Enough of the interior ruins survive to give an impression of castle life and gruesome and surprising tales can often be heard from our miller's wife, forester and other colourful characters from the past. Plus we have lots of seasonal events throughout the year.

Come along and meet Peter, our kitchen servant and Elena, our lady-in-waiting, as they join our other medieval characters during our food and drink month. They'll be weaving their tales about life in a busy castle kitchen and talking of menus that would've been selected for the feasts in the Great Hall. On throughout the day - drop in for one or more sessions at any time.
Could you be an archer?
5 - 21 April : 11am to 4pm
Archers would have played a key role in defending the castle in medieval times and their bow and arrow skills were very important. This Easter, come along and test your skills with archery tuition from Heathcliff's Heroics. Will you be good enough to be one of the castle's archers or will you use your new skill in a life as an outlaw?
Separate charges apply.
18 - 21 April 2014 : 11am to 4pm
With tales of daring feats, a notorious band of local outlaws will be setting up their Secret Outlaw camp here at Bodiam over the Easter weekend. We're looking for brave and bold children to undergo some training in hunting and other outlaw skills to join their band. If you'd like to join in, come along between 18 - 21 April, pick up a Secret Outlaw Pack at our ticket office and sign up for your training.
