Green ways to Greenway
There are lots of different ways to travel to Greenway; from ferry to steam train. Find out about them all here.
One fantastic way to travel to Greenway is by ferry from Dartmouth. This service along the River Dart departs hourly, and is the perfect way to find out more about the area whilst you travel to Greenway.
Once you arrive at Greenway quay there is an uphill walk through the woodland garden to reach Greenway, but there are plenty of benches to pause at and admire the views. There is also a shuttle service available, providing lifts from the quay to visitor reception; if you require a lift and the quay car isn't waiting please ask at the kiosk on the quay.
From Paignton and Kinsgwear you can board the steam train to Greenway Halt. From the Halt a 30 minute woodland walk brings you to Greenway; the walk through the wood is sloped and muddy in places so don't forget your walking boots. Please note that this route isn't suitable for buggies or wheelchairs. There is a bus that provides a shuttle run between the Halt and the entrance of Greenway.
From the village of Dittisham you can travel to Greenway in open wooden passenger ferry that takes up to 12 people. Just ring the bell on the quay to let the ferry know you're there.
You are spoiled for choice with beautiful walks to Greenway. The Dart Valley Trail takes you from Kingswear to Greenway, and the Greenway Walk from Broadsands is a moderate 6 mile walk. There is also the John Musgrave Heritage Trail, a leg of which runs from Greenway Quay to Brixham. You could also walk to Greenway from Galmpton via Mill Lane, Coombe Lane or Hook Bottom.
If you would rather travel to Greenway by car, then that's not a problem; just pre-book your parking space online or by giving the Greenway office a call. The car park books up quickly, so it's best to book your space at least the day before you wish to arrive, but if you do make a last minute decision to come to Greenway, call 01803 842382 to see if there is space available on the day.
When you arrive at Greenway, our car park attendant will tick you off his list and direct you to the car park. If you would like a lift from the car park to visitor reception, just ask at the front gate and the car park attendant will arrange the buggy for you.
There are so many different ways to travel to Greenway, it's worth coming back again and again to experience them all.
