About Kymin Stables

The Kymin Stables were built more than 200 years ago and are now comfortable and cosy holiday accommodation. Close to the Kymin Round House at the top of the hill called the Kymin, the stables are tucked away in their own private garden a stone’s throw from the Naval Temple, a monument to the British Navy.

The accommodation is on one level, and includes a living room, dining kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom. There’s an outdoor seating area and plenty of space to play in the garden. Beyond that you’ll find grassy pleasure grounds and viewing points which are open to the public. You will be able to drive up to the Stables using a local track and park in two private spaces.

From the Kymin Stables you can walk in ancient woodland to find paths and seating areas, and you’ll have Offa’s Dyke on your doorstep. Tawny owls, badgers and pipistrelle and soprano bats all live here. Scots Pine trees are home to the country’s rarest ant, the red wood ant, and you might spot wild boar from the neighbouring Forest of Dean or soaring buzzards and peregrine falcons. You are likely to see Sugar Loaf Mountain and on a clear day may see as far as Pen y Fan, the highest point of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons).

The nearby Kymin Round House, which is now a National Trust holiday cottage for two people, was built by a group of local gentlemen in 1794 as a banqueting hall, and they added the stables soon after. They also created the bowling green which still provides a great spot for outdoor games. The same group built the Naval Temple in 1800, which was then visited by Nelson.

If you want to explore beyond the Kymin, you’ll find walking trails close by and the National Cycle Path two miles away. The county town of Monmouth is a 10-minute drive.
