House tours

See the house as youâ¿¿ve never seen it before

A restoration tour replaces the house tour this year due to our ongoing house project. The house is open daily for tours from 11am to 5pm, last entry 4pm.

Enjoy the house at your leisure with a guide available in each room to tell you more about your surroundings. Don't forget to drop into our new conservation studio and watch an expert at work.

Garden tours

The herms depict the story of Circe

Summer is the perfect time to experience the gardens as our unusual plant collection bursts into life and bright colours are seen throughout the formal gardens.

Garden tours are available every weekend until October at 2pm and 3.15pm and last approximately one hour.

Events

We have something special happening year-round at Mount Stewart, so come along to one of our many events.

There's something to entertain the whole family, including our four-legged friends.

Explore the outdoors

Become an outdoor explorer with our 50 things to do before you're 11 ¾, a fun and exciting range of activities made especially for kids.

We'll be choosing three different activities each week over the summer, so come along to our special '50 things station' each Tuesday, Thursday or weekend afternoon where we'll be giving out activity books, stickers and ideas on what you and your little adventurers can get up to at Mount Stewart this summer (weather/staff permitting).

Make some music

When you pick up a '50 things' booklet, you'll notice that one of the activities is to make a grass trumpet. What other music do you think can be made from nature? How about a pine cone xylophone, rustling leaves or making a wind chime from branches lying on the ground?

But why should it only be the kids having fun? We've made some summer playlists inspired by the outdoors for Mum and Dad to enjoy while walking round the gardens. Have a listen - Easy-listening, Pop, Indie & RnB, Rock, Golden Oldies.

Drop-off activities

We are running several drop off activities for children aged 5-11. They will be run by our experienced education team. While the kids are having a ball, parents can relax with a cup of tea, walk in the beautiful grounds or visit the restoration project in the house. Normal adult admission to the property applies/members free. Booking is essential and the cost is £6 per child. Parental consent forms must be completed.

To find out more about these activities, visit our Events page and search for 'Bug Detectives' and 'Wildlife Trackers'. Call (028) 4278 8387 to book.

It's stocked entirely with donated books and run by volunteers.

Furnish your own garden

Pick up a new plant

With spring now well underway it's time to spruce up your own garden with decorative plants and ornaments.

At Mount Stewart you can pick up more unusual species of plants that we grow in our own gardens. They're sure to be a talking point among your family and friends.

The plants for sale are spray-free, and most are grown on the property from our own stock using peat-free compost.

Buying Mount Stewart grown plants helps to support our conservation propagation programme, conserving our collection for future generations.

Ice cream!

Cool down after your walk with some ice cream

When we think of summer, we instantly think of eating delicious ice cream outside in the sunshine.

Visit our kiosk where you can buy a delicious Glastry Farm ice cream, they come in fantastic flavours.

Ice creams and sorbets were very popular in country houses like Mount Stewart, find out how the servants made them many years ago.
