Basic step guide to Powis Castle & Garden
Castle and Clive Museum
There are 13 steps to the Castle entrance and wheelchair access to the ground floor rooms only. Access to the first floor rooms is via a very steep staircase with a handrail. There are 23 stairs up and 48 steps down to the exit corridor. Immediately after the Castle exit there are 9 steps up to the courtyard.
Seating is available in most rooms; please ask the room guide if required. Please note that due to conservation restrictions the light levels in some rooms are low.
Access to the Clive Museum and Ballroom is via the main staircase, which has 17 steps and a handrail. Unfortunately, there's no wheelchair access in the Ballroom and Clive Museum.
Garden
Due to the natural terrain of the place there are several very steep paths in the gardens. For your own health and safety, and that of other visitors, it's strongly advised that visitors who use Powered Mobility Vehicles (PMVs) and wheelchairs adhere strictly to the areas indicated by the garden entrance attendant. We're unable to permit three-wheeled PMVs in the garden.
Access and/or exit from the lower gardens for visitors with limited mobility is available by prior arrangement. Please telephone in advance or ask a member of the Visitor Reception Staff when buying your tickets.
There are unisex accessible toilets below the Stable Shop and in the gardens, next to Lady Violet's Tearoom.
Catering outlets
Both Lady Henrietta's Tearoom and Lady Violet's Tearoom have level access for wheelchairs.
