Longhorn cattle are kept here at Stowe in the parkland, the same breed that were here in the mid 1800s.

Barn Owls nest in and around the buildings at Stowe and can often be seen at dusk when they are leaving their roost to hunt.

Our gardeners were lucky enough to find a grass snake nest in leaf litter underneath one of our fallen tree trunks. So keep your eyes peeled and don't be afraid as they're harmless and shy, and will quickly slither away.

Green woodpeckers can be seen throughout our gardens. They're looking for insects on tree-bark and searching for ants’ nests. Tweet us if you hear one.
Pick up a family activity pack
If you and your family are interested in wildlife you can hire one of our family activity packs for a small donation. They have a range of activities for children aged 4 to 12 years, but will keep parents interested too.
