What to expect on your visit

You do not currently need to book your visit to Tintagel Old Post Office, but we may ask you to wait for admission during busy periods.

Dogs

Should you arrive with a non-assistance dog, one member of your party will need to wait outside with your dog and we can provide water for your four-legged friend. You are welcome to swap places with another person from your group during the duration of your visit. Unfortunately staff members are unable to wait with your dog.

Arrival

For directions to the village by foot, rail, car or bus as well as details on parking, please see the 'how to get here' tab on the homepage. This also includes directions from Google maps and cycle routes.

Once you have arrived in Tintagel village, you will find Tintagel Old Post Office opposite the King Arthur's Arms public house. Once at the Old Post Office, you will be greeted by a member of staff or volunteer who will lead you inside the property. At this time, access is via the far left-hand door at the front of the building. If you are a member, please have your membership card ready to scan at our till point inside the post room.

Facilities and access

• Assistance dogs only in the house and garden.

• The upper storey of the building can only be accessed via steep steps.

• Owing to the age of the building, the flagstone floors and floorboards are uneven, on different levels and slippery when wet.

• For wheelchair users, the ground floor of the house and the garden are accessible via a portable wheelchair ramp that staff will be on hand to position for you. There are some narrow entranceways to the rooms.

• An access guide exists, explaining the history and collections of the first-floor rooms.

• Please note, there are no public conveniences on site. The nearest public toilets are in Trevena Square nearby. There is a small charge for using these facilities.

• A small number of souvenirs and second hand books can be bought in the post room.

• There are no catering outlets on site, but people are welcome to bring their own food from the many vendors in the village. The cottage garden can be used for picnics. You will need to take your own rubbish away with you.
