About Theatre Royal

The Theatre Royal was first built in 1819 and was restored to its original Regency design in 2007. As well as being a Grade I-listed building, it is also the last working Regency playhouse in the country.

Live shows

Theatre Royal has a year-round programme of shows and events to cater for all ages and tastes, from drama to dance, new productions to children's theatre. The theatre supports local Amateur Dramatic groups and new theatre companies, while welcoming established touring companies and producing work inhouse.

Why not enjoy a historical tour of the theatre? Tours last approximately 1hr 30 minutes and National Trust members can take advantage of a significant discount.

Group visits

Groups visiting the theatre receive discounts when booking together. Groups of 25+ receive a 10% discount and groups of 10+ receive a 5% discount. Please email groupbookings@theatreroyal.org.

Schools

Working with schools and colleges is extremely important to the team at Theatre Royal, and a variety of projects run alongside the work that happens on stage.

Schools can join workshops which can be used to work towards the Arts Award and Arts Mark, and are geared specifically for pre-schools, Primary Schools and Secondary Schools.

Alternatively, school group can discover why the Theatre Royal is one of the most significant theatre buildings in the country on a guided tour.
