Discover refreshed activities for all the family

The mine yard at Dolaucothi has been sympathetically refreshed for 2023, and now features a new gold panning experience for everyone to enjoy.

Grab a pan and search for gold, you never know what you may find. The new water rill flows from the base of the mountain stream through to a golden wheel, and is accessible for everyone to take part.

The golden wheel is inspired by a piece of Dolaucothi Roman gold jewellery, discovered on site in 1799 and now on display at the British Museum.

Families are welcome to bring a picnic to sit and relax at the mine yard but please visit responsibly and take all litter home with you at the end of the day.

Learn more about Dolaucothi’s history within the Field Centre, where you’ll find a range of archives, maps, reference books and displays.

Tickets for site entry only (excluding guided underground tours) can be purchased on arrival. If you prefer a guided tour, please pre-book online via our website before you travel. As always, National Trust members can enter for free. Please see our homepage for the most up to date pricing.
