Trust me, I'm a Birmingham Back to Backs tour guide

Become a Back to Backs tour guide with our Summer Challenge National Trust

Do you want to know what it takes to be a tour guide at the Back to Backs? Want to be part of a summer school with a difference? Then our Summer Challenge is for you. Each summer, we open our doors for a week to a handful of young people who wish to learn about local history and heritage, and also explore how to pass this knowledge on.

So what is the Summer Challenge exactly?

It’s a chance to try something new and interesting, and meet new people.
During the week, with the help of volunteers and staff, you'll learn about the Back to Backs' past and our involvement with making the property what you see today.

What will you be doing?

As well as learning facts and figures, you'll develop skills such as team work, story telling and communication, marketing and presentation and tour guiding skills.
This is achieved through a combination of workshops, activities, tours and a trip to another one of our special places to give context to everything we want you to learn and develop.
The week ends with you giving your own tour to friends and family, to show off all you've learned.

How can I take part?

The Summer Challenge is open to you if you're aged between 16 and 20 who have an interest in heritage, tourism and trying something new.
The challenge is very popular - it's full every year - so to ensure you have a place contact us with your interest now.
Please email Muks Miah, who will kick-start your application.
