Help the rangers: Big Butterfly Count

Join us for the Big Butterfly Count 2024

Come and learn about the butterfly species that live at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal whilst helping our rangers count them in this national conservation survey.

Pick up your check sheet and count as many butterflies as you see on your adventures. How many will you spot? what species will you discover?

You can drop in any time between 10am and 4pm.

The basics

Meeting point

Meet the ranger team at the visitor centre. Drop in any time between 10am - 4pm. They will provide you with a check sheet before you set off on your adventure.

What to bring and wear

Please wear sturdy shoes and dress appropriately for the weather.

Accessibility

There is a steep 15-20% gradient from the visitor centre to the abbey and water garden. This is not recommended for wheelchair or powered mobility vehicle users. Paths through the estate vary from hard standing to gravel. Access to the abbey is across the grass.

Other

Dogs are welcome to join in but please remember to keep them on a short lead.
