Explore 'the last castle to be built in England' as the project to save it from certain ruin continues
We’ll be staying open during the conservation work, giving you the opportunity to go behind the scenes. Inside the castle has been redisplayed; wander around our installations which tell the stories of Castle Drogo and explore new rooms that have only been open to visitors since we started our conservation work.
You’ll also be able to see the building work in progress from the viewing tower (restrictions apply), and get closer than ever before to our precious treasures, now displayed in new ways.
Discover the beautiful Lutyens-designed terraced garden with dramatic views of Dartmoor. There’s plenty to see from the rose garden to the quaint Bunty House (Wendy House) complete with its own miniature garden.
Below the castle you can follow the winding paths into the sheltered Teign Valley. Explore this ancient gorge, teeming with wildlife as you follow the trails along the river.
Recharge at the café with a traditional Devon cream tea or tuck into a slice of cake. At our gift shop and plant centre you can pick up a wide range of plants, books, cards and locally produced food.
Saturday 25 October-Sunday 2 November, 11am-4pm
Every day in half-term follow the Dartmoor tales trail around the garden and grounds to learn about spooky Dartmoor myths and legends. (£1.50 including a prize).
On Friday 31 October 11am-4pm children can join in the spooky crafty activities in the activity hut (a small charge applies).
