Rooftops At Dawn Art Workshop

Calling all artists. A chance to see Orford Ness at sunrise and sunset. This overnight workshop will focus on observing and capturing the play of light and colour across the horizon through drawing and painting.

  • Booking essential

Join this workshop which will focus on using colour to engage with the fleeting light of sunrise and sunset on the Ness. Drawing and painting quickly with watercolour, ink and pastels from the Bomb Ballistics building rooftop as an observation point at first and last light. We will respond to the changes of hue, texture and opacity over land, sky and sea looking West as the sun sets and East as the sun rises.

This workshop will include overnight accommodation on the Ness. In the evening we will discuss the work of experimental artists such as Tacita Dean, Stan Brackage, Nancy Holt and Robert Smithson.

This workshop is led by internationally exhibiting artists Jane Watt and SE Barnet who are both Senior Lecturers in Fine Art at University of Suffolk. Watt and Barnet use a range of media in their art practice including drawing, lens-based media, installation and performance. Jane has undertaken a range of projects over the last three decades including largescale commissions and workshop programmes for University College London, John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and Darwin Green in northwest Cambridge. Susan has developed research groups such as radical reThink at University of the Arts, London and worked on projects with the Mass Observation Archive.
