About Heddon Orchard Bothy
For a truly rustic getaway, try this indoor camping style bothy set deep in the wilds of Heddon Valley.Heddon Bothy is a simple, basic four person hideaway located deep in the remote Heddon Valley. You’ll need to bring all of your equipment with you for cooking and ‘indoor camping’, as this wonderfully secluded accommodation is a place for real adventurers.
Step out into the valley and explore miles of excellent hiking trails, including the famous South West Coast Path right on your doorstep. Follow the winding river and you’ll reach Heddon's Mouth pebble beach. The more daring in your group might choose to scale the valley walls in search of panoramic cliff top views.
After a long days exploring, head over to the Hunter's Inn Hotel, a welcoming pub just 20 metres downhill from the bothy.
Make the most of your unique location and head inland to explore more of the outstanding Exmoor National Park. With its status as an International Dark Sky Reserve, the moors provide some of the best stargazing in the world, on a clear night you’ll be amazed by what you can see.

Ground floor
The ground floor is accessed via the main entrance and there is seating for four along one wall. Stairs that lead to the first floor.

First floor
The upper floor consists of a sleeping deck with sleeping platform. There is a shuttered window that serves as an emergency exit.
Notes for guests
Heating: No heating provided.
Bedding/linen: No linen provided.
Facilities: A lockable toilet and washroom is available for bothy guests only, 100 metres from the bothy next to the shop. Please note that a cleaning service, toilet paper and bin bags are not provided.
Parking: Car parking can be found in the National Trust car park (free to National Trust members) approximately 100 metres from the bothy. It is possible to unload 40 metres from the bothy. The route is along a well-maintained path, uphill and with some steps.
Garden: There is not an allocated garden area but there is a small yard with benches along the wall to the front of the bothy where you can barbecue (not provided).
There is also a meadow alongside the river 100 metres from the bothy that is ideal for picnics.
Please Note: Heddon Orchard does not have electricity or running water, It has a washroom facility, about 100 metres from the bothy, by the shop.
Hazards: The approach to the bothy is via a relatively narrow uphill path.
The internal staircase is very steep.
Dog owners should be aware that there is no enclosed garden.
This is an area of minimal light pollution and so the nights will be dark. Even a trip to the toilet will need a torch.
