About Thatch Cottage

A beautifully restored thatched cottage with a modern rustic interior, set within Calke Abbey.

Stay in this charming 17th-century thatched cottage where country rustic meets contemporary luxury. Its low beamed ceilings and large bricked fireplace have preserved, while modern furnishings have been added to create an inviting holiday cottage with hints of luxury. It started life as three separate homes and now makes up one, three-bedroom holiday cottage with room for six people and one dog.

Its location, on the edge of the Calke Abbey estate, is perfect for those after a country getaway. You’ll have 600 acres of parkland on your doorstep. Pick up a map and discover trails through its National Nature Reserve, flower gardens and deer parks.

The nearby Georgian market town of Melbourne is less than a 10 minute drive from the cottage. Here you’ll find a wealth of tea rooms, pubs and restaurants. For walks in the Peak District, you can reach the southern end in less than an hour’s drive.

About the Acorn rating

We have applied a 1-5 acorn rating to each cottage to be used only as a guide that covers location, style of interior and facilities you may be looking for. The range runs from 1 Acorn at a more basic level such as Bird How which due to its stunning yet remote location doesn’t have a caretaker through to 5 Acorns at the highest level – such as Shute Barton.

Cottage pricing is not judged on the Acorn rating alone and as all our cottages are of an individual nature we recommend that all factors are considered when making your choice.
