Ulster Gardens Scheme announce open gardens for 2018
Open gardens offer a rare opportunity to explore the secrets of hidden and private gardens not usually open to the public and the Ulster Gardens Scheme is bringing together a spectacular array for summer 2018.
On Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 June, Mr Will Hamilton, 3 Ballyutoag Hill, Nutts Corner, Crumlin. BT29 4UH is opening the garden of Holly House from 2-5 pm on behalf of the National Trust, Northern Ireland’s largest conservation charity.
Holly House garden is an area of six acres created out of farmland over the past 17 years. The garden comprises woodlands, herbaceous borders and an iris garden where thousands of spring and summer bulbs have been planted. There is an alpine bed, wildlife ponds and a newly planted shrub and woodland garden. Also, in contrast to the traditional parts there is a modern contemporary garden.
Location: From Belfast go to Carlisle Circus and take the Crumlin Road, following signs for Crumlin/International Airport (A52). After three miles, reaching the Horse Shoe Bend, continue for four miles approximately. Turn left onto Ballyutoag Hill and the garden is the first entrance on the right.
From the West: From Moira (M1) roundabout follow sign to International Airport and after 11 miles come to Nutts Corner roundabout. Take the road to Belfast (A52) and after four miles turn right onto Ballyutoag Hill and the garden is first entrance on the right.
Enjoy a summer’s day wandering around this secret garden paradise and pick up a few tips for your own garden. While you are there buy some plants in the plant stall.
