Birmingham and Liverpool go head-to-head in six-week walking challenge

If you live in Birmingham* register for free today and be in with a chance of winning a £500 National Trust voucher.

A little friendly competition can be a great motivator, so we're inviting you to step up for your city. Whether you're walking or wheeling to the shops, taking the children to school or heading out for a leisure walk, every goal-hit day counts towards your city's total on the live leaderboard.

All you need to do is download the Go Jauntly app for free and register for This City Moves: Birmingham v Liverpool. Then pick your team, Birmingham, Liverpool, or Team Rest of the World if you're joining from anywhere else. Select your daily step goal, 1,000, 3,000 or 5,000 steps and walk or wheel your way through six weeks from Monday 7 September. Every goal-hit day adds to your team's score, so it doesn't matter how far you go, just that you show up.

This isn't about personal bests. It's about showing up, discovering some brilliant new local walks along the way, and a bit of friendly rivalry between two brilliant cities.

Residents will have a chance to win a range of prizes including a £500 National Trust gift card. If you live outside of Birmingham or Liverpool but want to take part, you can help your chosen city win blossom trees - the city with the highest total will receive 10 blossom trees, while the runner-up will receive three.

To help everyone get moving, Go Jauntly has created more than 20 free photo-led walking routes across both cities, with more to come.

In Birmingham, a new ‘Black Sabbath’ walking route takes visitors on a 4.6km journey through the birthplace of heavy metal, passing the Black Sabbath Bridge, striking murals and street art.

There are also walks for different access needs such as the step free ‘Erdington and Rookery Park Trail’.

Developed to inspire more people to walk for their wellbeing and enjoy the places where they live, This City Moves is a partnership between Go Jauntly, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, West Midlands Combined Authority, Birmingham City Council and the National Trust, funded by the UK Government and Active Travel England.
