The Big Butterfly Count
Join the Big Butterfly Count! Friday 17 July – Sunday 9 August.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
Spend just 15 minutes watching and exploring and become a butterfly detective! With our easy-to-use Butterfly Spotter Sheets in hand, you’ll explore the blooms and dunes, identifying and recording the beautiful species that flutter by. Butterflies aren’t just lovely to look at—they’re vital indicators of a healthy environment. Sadly, half of Britain’s butterfly species are in decline. By taking part in the Big Butterfly Count, the UK’s largest citizen science project of its kind, you’ll be helping scientists track how these delicate creatures are responding to changes in climate, habitat, and pollution. A new study by the wildlife charity Butterfly Conservation has revealed that counting butterflies can reduce anxiety and increase feelings of connectedness to nature. It’s a fantastic way to enjoy the outdoors, connect with nature, and contribute to vital conservation efforts—all while having fun with family and friends.
