About Hedge-laying for the future
Learn the traditional art of hedge-laying from our experienced rangers.Spend a few days learning traditional Cumberland hedge-laying in the western Lakes. A well-laid hedge not only looks good but encourages new growth and provides an important habitat for small birds, mammals and insects, so it is a vital task that we undertake around every ten years. Using traditional hand tools, you will be doing the first lay of one of the hedges on the wonderfully wooded Nether Wasdale Estate. No previous experience is necessary, just a good level of fitness, a willingness to learn new skills and a sense of humour.
About the accommodation
The accommodation is spread over two floors consisting of a lounge/dining area with a log burner, a small kitchen and two areas consisting of five rooms. Outside you are 70 yards from the shore of Wastwater and there is plenty of outdoor and informal garden space. There is access to our boathouse and rowing boat less than a mile away.
