About Youth Discovery Wasdale

Help with conservation tasks in the Lake District.

Join the rangers of the West Lakes in the Lake District on this week-long working holiday. The unique landscape has been shaped by rural communities for centuries and there are mountains, rolling hills, lakes, woodland and wildlife to discover around every corner.

You'll be helping the ranger team with conservation work both in the valley and on the fells. You can try out a variety of skills over the week which could include drystone walling, fencing and gate hanging. The historic drystone walls are as much a feature of the landscape here as the lakes themselves. You’ll be staying in Wasdale on the shores of England’s deepest lake, Wastwater, and you'll be surrounded by some of the country’s highest and most dramatic mountains.

It's also the perfect working holiday to join for your Duke of Edinburgh residential too, as you'll be learning new skills outside of your usual environment and finding out more about yourself along the way.

About the accommodation

The accommodation is spread over two floors consisting of a lounge/dining area with a log burner, a small kitchen and two areas consisting of five rooms. Outside you are 70 yards from the shore of Wastwater and there is plenty of outdoor and informal garden space. There is access to our boathouse and rowing boat less than a mile away.
