Book your visit to Sutton House for 2019

Sutton House, Hackney

Sutton House is changing for the better. In 2019, we will be offering pre-booked tours and self-guided visits, as well as our seasonal exhibitions.

Throughout the year you will be able to book a visit to Sutton House, either a self-guided visit, a weekend tour, or a twilight tour at evening. Over Easter (April), Summer (June, July and August), the Halloween Half-Term (23- 27 Oct) and Christmas, visitors will be able to explore our seasonal exhibitions for a self-guided visit without pre-booking.

In February we will be launching an exhibition about Clive Jenkins, the charismatic trade union leader, who had his office here at Sutton House with the ASTMS (Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs) from the 1950s to the 1980s. The exhibition will include a recreation of his office, archival material and first-hand accounts from those who worked with him.

You can visit in three different ways:

Self-Guided Visit

Wednesday – Friday, 14.00-16.00

Starting with a brief introduction, explore 500 year old Sutton House at your own pace. Experience Tudor, Georgian, Victorian and 1980s historic rooms. Entry includes access to our exhibition about Clive Jenkins and the ASTMS Trade Union, and a recreation of his office as it may have appeared between the 1950s and 1980s.

Twilight Tours

Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, 18.30-20.00

Experience Hackney's oldest home as darkness falls with a tour led by a Sutton House expert. Learn about past residents from 500 years of history and the many unique ways the house has been used, including as a home to Thomas Cromwell's right hand man, a Victorian school, and a 1980s squat. Explore a newly installed recreation of the office of Clive Jenkins and the ASTMS Trade Union who were based here from the 1950s-1980s. There will be time to explore at your own pace following the tour.

Weekend Guided Tours

Saturday and Sunday, 12.00-14.00, 14.00-16.00
