Teaching a class at Sutton House

We're looking for a Community Learning and Volunteering intern to work with school groups and help recruit new volunteers from our local community. We're not looking for previous experience or qualifications just enthusiasm and passion.

What is a Community Learning and Volunteering intern?
You’ll get involved in some really interesting projects at Sutton House, including leading our primary school sessions where you’ll bring to life the history of the Tudors, solve the crime of the stolen panelling and explore the Breaker’s Yard in our outdoor engagement sessions. What’s more, you’ll learn about how we run Sutton House and create enjoyable experiences for our visitors by helping to recruit new volunteers. This is a vital part of our work and requires enthusiasm, dedication and care.

Are you looking for someone with loads of experience?
We’re looking for someone with lots of enthusiasm who wants to experience the work we do. You don’t need qualifications or work experience, just a willingness to learn. To be eligible for the role, you will need to be aged between 18-24, a Job Seekers Allowance claimant at the time of applying and be a resident of either: Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Newham, Barking & Dagenham, Waltham Forest. In return, we’ll give you a paid job for 6months, full training, a great set of skills and a helping hand to get you into full-time work. An experience that’s sure to impress future employers.

What are the hours and pay?
This role is a fixed term contract for 6months, where you’ll work 37.5 hours per week at £7.20 per hour.
At Sutton House, we’ve been working closely with the Creative Employment Programme (a £15m Arts Lottery fund) to support the creation of paid internship opportunities for those aged 18-24, who are unemployed. This role is funded through the Creative Employment Programme.
