From 7th - 11th September 2026, works will take place to replace the car park payment machines at Dunstable Downs, along with the installation of a new barrier and cameras, which will provide visitors with a more reliable and user-friendly parking experience.
The installation works taking place will include the installation of a new barrier, cameras and payment machines in the main car park. New payment machines will also be installed in all overflow car parks, with all current payment machines being removed.
As part of this upgrade, we'll be switching from a flat-fee to a tiered parking payment structure, allowing visitors to pay for a specific amount of time if they wish. As is currently the case, all money spent in our car parks goes directly back to supporting the conservation and care of this special landscape, as well as improving access and visitor facilities across the site.
The new prices are as follows:
- Up to 2 hours - £2.50
- Up to 4 hours - £4.50
- All day - £6
The new pricing structure, along with the new machines and technology, is due to go live on Fri 11th September. Any delays or changes to this schedule will be communicated on our website, social media posts, and using on-site signage.
What's changing and what does this mean?
- Automatic Numperplate Recognition (ANPR) cameras will be installed, along with a new entrance barrier. This will create a smoother ticketless experience for visitors, as well as helping to maintain site security.
- Card payment will now be an option at all parking machines across the site. Members will continue to be able to scan their membership cards, and all visitors can pay using JustPark if they wish to do so. Cash payments will be available using the machine closest to the Visitor Hub.
- A tiered pricing structure will be available, allowing short-stay visitors to pay less on parking. Also, if a visitor wishes to stay for longer than they originally planned, they'll be able to pay to extend their parking session.
