We’re getting ready to make some exciting improvements to the Turning Yard café at Clumber Park, with work beginning in January as part of our long-term investment in the estate.
To allow this work to take place, the café will close from Monday 5 January, reopening in time for Easter.
While much of the work will be happening behind the scenes, these changes are an important step in improving how we prepare, serve, and enjoy food at Clumber - now, and for years to come.
What’s changing?
The project will focus on improving facilities that visitors don’t usually see, but which play a vital role in running a busy café.
A key part of the works is the creation of a new production kitchen in the former Clock Tower ice cream parlour. With our brand-new Stableyard Scoop ice cream and desserts parlour now open, this space can be transformed to support the café more effectively.
Our current kitchen facilities are small, outdated and no longer fit for purpose. This space will benefit from a much-needed upgrade for serving food, and the new production kitchen will give our team the space and equipment they need for baking and preparing food more efficiently.
We’ll also be lengthening the café counter and making it fully accessible for all visitors, creating a more welcoming and inclusive experience for everyone.
What about food and drink during the closure?
Rest assured, visitors will not go hungry while the café is closed.
Throughout the works, a range of other food outlets will remain open across the park, offering a variety of visitor favourites including:
- Breakfast baps
- Hot & cold sandwiches
- Soup & one pots
- Jacket potatoes
- Cakes, bakes & snacks
- A selection of hot and cold drinks
Indoor seating will be available in the café on some days when the works allow safe access, and additional indoor seating areas will be available elsewhere.
Part of a bigger picture for Clumber
These café improvements are just one part of an exciting long-term investment plan for Clumber Park, which will bring significant benefits for visitors.
Future projects include:
- A new main car park
- Peripheral car parks across the estate
- Adapting and re-using current buildings in Hardwick village to create a visitor hub with new and improved toilet facilities, including a Changing Places toilet
- A new outdoor hub adjacent to the new car park
Together, these projects will help us to improve access, expand facilities, and enhance the experience for everyone who visits.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the café at Easter and share the results of this important work.
