About West Challacombe ManorA historic manor house with lots of original features for you to discover.
Stay in a place of historic significance in this 15th-cenutry cottage. Each room unveils remarkable historic features, from the oak hammer beam ceiling that dates from 1485 to the farmhouse-style kitchen. You’ll find three charming bedrooms and other intriguing rooms such as a scullery and a diary, all carefully restored to retain its special character.
Outside a cobbled courtyard will lead you through old barn doors and out to the sloping, wild garden. Here, you’ll have uninterrupted views of the surrounding hills. There’s also a garden to the front of the cottage, which is shared with West Challacombe Cottage which can be booked at the same time.
Wild Pear beach is a short walk from here and the shops and restaurants of Combe Martin are just a 20 minute walk. As you’ll be on the fringes of Exmoor, you could loop onto the South West Coast Path for its rugged coastline or delve further into the hilly moorlands of the national park.

Notes for guests
Access: The access statement is for guidance only. For up to date photos please those images in the main website page.
Heating: Oil central heating included.
Parking: Parking is available for two cars on the grassed area just opposite the large oak gates leading into the courtyard. After parking enter the oak gates to the cobbled courtyard and take care in frosty or wet weather or poor lighting conditions as the yard is uneven and steep.
*WiFi: This is now available, but please note that intermittent connection problems can sometimes occur and should not be relied upon. We are pleased to provide free WiFi at this cottage which is supported by BT.
Access: To reach this utterly fabulous place, access is via a single-track, rough lane with high hedgerows and limited passing opportunities.
Offers: Guests will benefit from a late Sunday checkout of 4pm.
Logs: Watersmeet Estage's own logs can be purchased at the time of booking or whilst at the cottages for use on the fire. Eco kindling and eco firelighters are also available to purchase.
Please note: West Challacombe Manor is a significant historic building and farm of great beauty which may contain some risks for unsupervised children. In respect to the fabric of this building and to ensure the historic integrity remains unaffected, stair gates have not been provided for the two staircases.
Garden: There is a wild sloping garden with picnic bench and a walled terrace with a table and chairs. There is also a front garden which is shared with West Challacombe Cottage.
Fly fishing: From 1st March to 30th September,a complementary day ticket for salmon and/or trout fishing on the East Lyn is available for guests, this can be collected at Watersmeet, open from 8am until 5pm daily, for more information call 01598 763556.
