Exploring the Southwood Estate

The wooded valley at Southwood Estate

The Southwood Estate is a timeless landscape of wooded valleys, floral fields and craggy cliffs. It’s full of scenic surprises and you’re well placed to explore the estate’s natural beauty from our car parks at Southwood Farm and Maidenhall.

Things to see and do

We’re delighted to have opened up public access at Southwood and there’s plenty to see and do during your visit. Take in the best of coast and countryside on our trails, spot the flora and fauna that call Southwood home and see how we’re working hard to safeguard this special place for ever, for everyone.

The shearing shed

Head to the shearing shed exhibition, our visitor hub at Southwood Farm. Open year-round, here you can learn more of the estate’s history, wildlife and agricultural story. It’s also the base for our farm and woodland walk.

Wonderful walks

You can enjoy the best of the Southwood Estate with our new waymarked walking trails. For a more leisurely stroll, there’s a one-mile walk from the farm to Newgale beach, through the charming woodland of old South Wood.

Or stretch your legs with our coast to coast walk, a 2.7 mile route that covers the wider estate and opportunity to explore Newgale beach.

We run a series of events at Southwood Farm throughout the year including guided walks and talks, nature trails and 50 Things children’s activities. Take a look at our events guide to see what’s on at Southwood.

The farm range is also open on event days for a behind-the-scenes peek at the restoration work and ongoing conservation process of the traditional buildings.
