Exploring Southwood Estate

The wooded valley at Southwood Estate

Southwood is such a special place and we’re lucky enough to look after it. The estate was left to us in 2003 as a generous legacy by Mrs Maurer, who loved this part of the world… here’s how you can enjoy it too.

The Southwood Estate is vast and stretches from the Georgian farmhouse and courtyard through to wildlife-rich fields, wooded valleys and clifftop coast paths.

We’re giving the estate a new lease of life and along with caring for the historic buildings, which date back to the mid 19th century, we’re also looking after the rolling, diverse landscape. That’s why our open days at Southwood Farm are so much fun as you can explore heaps of heritage and learn more about what we’ve been up to as part of the restoration and ongoing conservation process.

We host a number of events and open days throughout the year, with something new to see each season. Highlights include guided tours led by National Trust rangers and fun 50 Things activities for the kids.

Of course, you’re always welcome to put on your walking boots and get exploring for yourself. We’re opening up a footpath network around Southwood Farm – why not try the first stage, our coast to coast walk, starting at Maidenhall car park, grid ref: SM857202. Access and parking at Southwood Farm itself is currently only available on event days.
