Ladies' Walk at Montacute

This 45-minute walk includes a pull up a wooded escarpment, but you are rewarded with beautiful views over the village of Montacute and a sea of bluebells in the spring.

    Start point

    Montacute House car park, grid ref: ST499172

    Stage 1

    From Montacute House car park, follow signs to the Parkland, passing the greenhouses, through the yew hedge and along the gravel path to the park and the starting point. Turn right when you reach the Parkland and follow the path through two gates. You will come out into Back Lane.

    Stage 2

    Bear left along Back Lane till you reach the road (c.100m).

    Stage 3

    Cross the road, and follow the road past the school entrance till you reach a wooden kissing gate.

    Stage 4

    Once through the gate, follow the path upwards through the woodland.

    Stage 5

    Keep left along the top of the ridge when the path splits.

    Stage 6

    Turn right at the waymarker post and drop down to a kissing gate at the edge of the woodland. Bear right across open fields, which may be grazed by livestock. Descend towards a bank of trees.

    Stage 7

    Cross a bridge across a small stream. Follow the path across open fields to a kissing gate. The ground can be very boggy in winter. Turn left to retrace your way to the car park.
