Thurrock 100 walk and talk

The gardens at Rainham Hall

Thurrock 100 is a creative community project that aims to celebrate the stories and places of Thurrock – and share them with the wider world. Rainham Hall is delighted to be working in collaboration this year with Thurrock 100 on a special walk.

On Sunday 15 July 2018 at 11am-2.30pm, we'll be partnering with Thurrock 100 on a special walk which will start in our Community Gardens and finish at the RSPB Rainham Marshes in Purfleet. Join us for this free event and talk organised by our colleagues at the Thames Chase Visitor Centre. It'll be a walk of two halves ending in a picnic at Rainham Marshes.

Meet at here Rainham Hall, where we you will hear about our kitchen gardens, herb spiral and orchard with some very unusual varieties like a 150 year old Mulberry tree and how jam is made from the fruit. On the way to Rainham Marshes we will hear about the local history of the area.

If you'd prefer to start the walk at Purfleet, please see Walk 7 for details and to book, we will consider the food grown on local farms or sold in village shops. Find out about “the famous white bait suppers” and the award-winning village school famous for its amazing apples.

After the picnic either enjoy spending some more time exploring the marshes or visit the local Purfleet Heritage Centre. Please bring along snacks and refreshments for the picnic.
