North Devon walking festival 


Join us for the North Devon Walking Festival, taking place between the 12 - 18 May at National Trust sites across the North Devon countryside. Whether you're looking for a leisurely stroll, history tour or a more adventurous hike, there's something for every level of walker to enjoy. Find out more about the walks taking place below, booking is essential (except for the Outdoor History Tour at Arlington). 

Monday 12 May

Southern wood walk at Lorna Doone
Join our expert walk leaders for a guided walk through the stunning Lorna Doone Valley. Head up the steep hill to Southern Wood, descend into the Doone Valley, and follow the tranquil Badgworthy Water, all while enjoying breathtaking views of Exmoor. £3 per personFind out more here
Outdoor history walk at Arlington Court
Join one of our expert volunteers for a guided walk through the grounds and gardens, uncovering the rich history of the estate. Hear stories of the old manor, the medieval village, and the families who once lived here. Free with normal admission – no booking required.Find out more here

Tuesday 13 May

Valleys and Views at Arlington Court
What goes down must come up! A more challenging guided walk of 5-6 miles with one of our knowledgeable walking guides. This walk takes in three of the best views on the Arlington estate. Take on the hill and be rewarded with a view, refill and recharge before heading back down the valley and up to a new spectacular view! £3 per person.Find out more here

Top trees garden walk at Arlington Court
Join one of our garden team members for a stroll through the garden. Learn about some wonderful trees in and around the garden. This is also a great opportunity to ask any questions you have for our experienced gardeners. Free with normal admission – no booking required.Find out more

Thursday 15 May

East Titchberry, Hartland
Join the Hartland ranger team for a leisurely walk around this historic medieval farm, exploring its wildlife-rich habitats and soaking up breathtaking views over Shipload Bay and across to Lundy Island. £3 per person.Find out more here
Heddon Valley to Woody Bay loop
Join our ranger team for a 6-mile guided walk starting from Heddon Valley. Take in views along the coast and across to Wales as you walk along some of the highest and most dramatic cliffs in England. £3 per person.Find out more here
A history of the local landscape at Arlington Court
Join one of our knowledgeable walk leaders on this 3 mile (ish) walk that ends up looking out across the landscape towards Combe Martin and Holdstone Down, where you will learn some of the exciting stories of our landscape’s past. £3 per person.Find out more here

Woolacombe Down guided walk
Join our ranger team for a guided walk across Woolacombe Down and discover how we’re restoring nature in this special landscape. Looking out for skylarks and enjoy the first wildflowers of the season. £3 per person.Find out more here

Doone Valley walk
Join the Lorna Doone Valley team for a guided walk through the landscape that inspired R.D. Blackmore’s classic romance, Lorna Doone. Explore the valley and beyond as you uncover the real-life inspiration behind the story. £3 per person.Find out more here

Watersmeet photography walk
Join local photographer Mark Johnson for a scenic walk, sharing expert photography tips as you go. Follow the route from Combe Park along the river to Watersmeet Café, taking in the local wildlife along the way. £6 per person.Find out more here
