Christmas in the mansion
Add a little sparkle to your visit this festive season and wander through spectacular rooms decorated with twinkling lights and showstopping trees.
Step into a winter wonderland with snowy trees and discover the Hondecoeter dining room prepared for a festive feast, complete with name cards of previous famous guests. Be serenaded with peaceful piano music, as our volunteers play on selected days, adding to the enchanting atmosphere at Belton.
With lots of interactive moments, such as dressing up and enjoying a selfie moment or helping us to decorate a tree, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
25 November 2023 – 7 January 2024, open daily (closed Christmas Day), 11am – 3.30pm (last admission 3pm).
Entry is included in National Trust membership or normal admission to Belton. There is no pre-booking required for entry to the mansion.
Make the most of your visit
Beyond the mansion, the whole Estate will be festively decorated to create a magical atmosphere. Find inspiration to make the holidays extra special this year with a visit to the Gift Shop and indulge in a delicious hot chocolate and mince pie from the Stables Café. Why not pick up a game to play while you enjoy a bite to eat?
Enjoy a star spotting trail in the mansion for families, with felt stars created by Belton volunteers hidden around the glittering rooms, before completing a star-themed activity at the end of your visit. Discover a wonderful community art installation along the cobbled drive, with stars decorated by Belton's local community groups. Wander through the formal gardens, and see if you can spot handcrafted stars, made by Belton staff and volunteers out of natural materials from the gardens.
Take part in one of Belton's traditions, and visit the second-hand bookshop to decorate the Christmas tree with your festive wishes or messages.
Packed full of treasures, discover a mansion bursting with history. Belton's collection tells a story rich in global history and our future work will focus on bringing those stories to life.
Rest and refuel in a historic setting or treat yourself to something special to take home. Find out about our dog-friendly café and other places to eat and shop.
Explore the gardens at Belton, including the Italian Garden, a Conservatory and a Dutch Garden with formal bedding schemes. Whatever time of year you visit, the shifting seasons provide a great variety of colour and wildlife to see.
Explore 1,300 acres of parkland at Belton and find out more about the wildlife you may see along the way, including the herd of historic fallow deer.
During winter, many of the places in our care are transformed with colour as they host winter illuminations and lights trails. Check back later in the year for details of the events coming up in 2024.
Join a Christmas craft workshop to learn how to create colourful decorations and memorable gifts, all in beautifully festive surroundings.
Step back in time and experience a historic Christmas first-hand. From the 1800s to the 1980s, see houses decked out with decorations from across history at the places in our care.
Plan a festive family day out and meet Father Christmas in his grotto this Christmas. You can even settle down for a storytelling session or leave a gift at a reverse grotto at some of the places in our care.
