Christmas at Montacute House

As work continues behind the scenes on the ‘Saving the Staircases’ project and to prepare the upper floors of the house for their reopening in early 2027, Montacute House will be embracing a simpler, cosy Christmas this festive season.

From 27 November to 3 January 2027, step inside the ground floor of the house to discover crackling fires, an Elizabethan Christmas feast and a magnificent 16ft Christmas tree in the Great Hall, creating the perfect setting for a seasonal photo. Outside, add your Christmas wish to the wishing tree at North Porter's Lodge, then head to the Stables for warming drinks from the Coffee Pod and family-friendly festive games beneath the Coach House.

While you're here, browse the second-hand bookshop for Christmas gifts, write a letter to Father Christmas, and enjoy a winter wander through the beautiful gardens and parkland, all dressed in the quiet charm of the season.

Christmas shopping at Montacute House

The National Trust shop at Montacute House has a selection of homeware, food, drinks, books and toys great for a festive gift or a tasty treat for someone special.

Present purchasing opportunities can also be found at nearby Lytes Cary Manor with the Christmas Market on 14 and 15 November that showcases a variety of goodies created and crafted by local producers.  

Barrington Court artisan workshops, shop and Beagles café

Barrington is a short drive from Montacute House and offers a wonderful array of unique locally made gifts and presents.  Beagles is the dog friendly café offering an opportunity to revive, have a catch up with friends and enjoy a tasty Christmas treat.
