Signs of Spring trail

Saturday 4 April - Sunday 19 April (ex, Easter weekend)

Follow the Signs of Spring family trail to spot giant flower sculptures across the site. Learn all about them and find out about how they help bugs and all sorts of wildlife.

Nature Clay Imprints

Saturday 4 April (until Sunday 19 April)

11am - 3pm

Get creative with clay to make a nature imprint in Swanley Grange. Squidge a leaf, a seed or twig into the clay to see the pattern it leaves behind.

Easter weekend

Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt

Friday 10 April - Monday 13 April

Are you buzz buzz buzzzzzing for Easter? We are! Join the Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt to telp Henry the honey bee. He's in a spot of bother and needs your help to find all of his bee friends. They're hiding around the abbey - find them all to claim your tasty chocolate prize from Cadbury. 

See if you can find the Golden Egg!

Returning to Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal is the Golden Egg hunt! Hidden somewhere in the grounds is a small little egg, bright gold and waiting for keen eyes to pick it out. But shhhh! If you find it you must leave it where it is.

Good Friday Service

Friday 10 April

3 – 3:45pm

To commemorate this day there will be an ecumenical service in the abbey cellarium. Everyone is welcome to worship together.

Egg Rolling Competition

Monday 13 April

2 - 2.30pm

Bring your hard boiled eggs for an egg rolling competition on the abbey green. How far will yours go? Competition will start at 2pm.

Let nature be your inspiration this April

Can't make the Easter weekend? There are activities going on all month to get stuck into.

Follow the Signs of Spring trail, get crafty in Swanley Grange making a bee house, make a nature print in clay and have an adventure through the abbey and water garden.

Did you know that there’s over 2000 species of bees in the UK alone? While the honey bee is a very sociable bee and lives in a hive with thousands of others there are many who live on their own. Build them somewhere to live in Swanley Grange workshop. 

Make a mini raft

Thursday 9 April

Drop in between 1 - 3pm

Tick off one of your 50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾ in Studley Royal water garden. Have fun with sticks by creating a miniature raft. Test your building skills by seeing whether it stays afloat on the moon ponds.

Drop in between 11am - 3pm

Find out about our deer herd with our wildlife team who'll also be on hand to share their knowledge of other wildlife on the estate.

Make a paper daffodil

Tuesday 14 April

Drop in between 1 - 3pm

The bright yellow of daffodils hails the start of spring. Use colourful paper to make your own in Swanley Grange workshop. Then set off on your Easter adventure to see if you can spot them in full bloom around the abbey.

Bird hide drop in

Tuesday 14 April

11am - 3pm

Want to learn how to bird watch with the best of them? See if you can spot chaffinches and nuthatches, bluetits and woodpeckers. Join members our wildlife team in the bird hide where they will be on hand to help you spot birds and to answer your questions.

Don't miss pond dipping before you go back to school

Friday 17 April

Drop in between 11am - 3pm

Newts, water lice, water boatmen, molluscs, pea mussels... There’s an extraordinary world just waiting to be discovered hiding under the surface of the still ponds in the water garden. We’ll provide the nets, identification charts and the pots so you can see what you might find. Pop along to the water garden moon ponds to have a go at this drop-in session. 

In Fountains Mill find...

If you love nature there's a new art exhibition on with conservation porject Back from the Brink in Fountains Mill (behind Mill Cafe). Be sure to pop in and see the work on display.

What you need to know for your visit 

Spend a few hours exploring the ruins of Fountains Abbey before following the river down to the sprawling water garden. Don't stop there though!
