Christmas at Osterley Park and House

Christmas trees fill the entrance hall of Osterley Park and House, London

Christmas by Design is an installation that takes you through Robert Adam’s stunning interiors of Osterley’s principle floor and on a journey of Christmas traditions and things that matter. Beautifully lit rooms, sights and smells to evoke the senses and feelings of nostalgia, we’ll be asking you ‘what makes Christmas for you’?

Christmas trees fill the hall

Christmas trees fill the Entrance Hall on Robert Adam inspired plinths, showcasing the different styles that have graced our homes over the years. Does a particular tune resonate with you as a ’it’s definitely Christmas now I’ve heard…’ moment? Stroll down the Long Gallery and be musically transported over the centuries and decades, right up to some good old cheesy classics.

Festive feasts

And everyone loves a Christmas dinner. But what do you eat? What safely guarded family recipes do you hoard, handed down over the generations and so familiar that nothing else quite compares? And let’s not forget the all-important setting of the table – from those who favour a more traditional setting, to those keeping right up to date with the latest department store trends.

Christmas classics

We all tend to watch a little more telly over the festive period and Christmas movies can be make or break for some. Old black and white classics, more modern day interpretations and children’s adventures that keep both young and old gripped to the end and singing for a week after!

Traditional tales

And let’s not forget the magic of the Christmas story; curling up by the fire, reading your own childhood favourites to your family, or just finding a quiet corner to call your own and take some time out for yourself.

We all have our favourite parts of Christmas and it’s the way we pull them altogether that makes them truly unique. So tell us, what makes Christmas for you?
