Winter at Osterley

Enjoy frosty mornings on the long walk or taking in the open vistas across the garden and park. Warm up with a hot chocolate or a freshly baked pasty from the Stables Café.

Winter is a great time to varied landscapes at Osterley Park and House. The trees no longer covered with leaves, open up the original vistas of the House across Middle Lake as planned by Robert Adam. Watch out for the seasonal bulbs such as snowdrops blooming across the site.

Crisp, sunny days are perfect for a winter walk in the gardens at Osterley

Osterley's Winter Garden

We have been developing the winter garden which is now a sight to behold while the rest of the garden slumbers. We have planted many varieties of trees, shrubs, herbaceous perennials and bulbs - all of which have colourful or interesting leaves, bark, stems or flowers in the winter months, which are at their best when light levels are low and when the sun’s low angle lights up their bright stems. Be sure not to miss the new garden House display, housed in our Grade 1 listed, Adam designed orangery.

Winter Walkies at Osterley Park and House

This year you’ll be able to enjoy the formal gardens with your four-legged friends. Come down to the garden kiosk, pick up one of our leads and explore the wintery landscape. There’s always something beautiful to see, and this time of year is the best time to visit our winter garden, with its rare plants. Or work off some energy with a stroll around the mile-long Long Walk, with beautiful views of the rear of the house.

House conservation

While the principal floor of the House is closed November to February this winter, the House Team will be conducting core conservation work to the rooms and collection in those spaces. This will include the annual winter clean as well as some more detailed and specialist work to care for and improve the condition of our historic doors, paint schemes and floors.

What is your Treasure of Osterley?

Throughout the autumn we asked visitors, volunteers, colleagues and local community groups ‘what is your Treasure of Osterley?’. This exhibition in the Jersey Galleries of the house will showcase the responses, highlighting people’s favourite parks of the house, park and garden at Osterley.
