Christmas at Powis Castle: 2019

A child receives a Christmas gift from Father Christmas who is sat in front of a Christmas tree at National Trust's Powis Castle, Wales

There are plenty of ways to celebrate the festive period here at Powis. Enjoy illuminated gardens and ornately dressed state rooms, fine festive foods and story time with Father Christmas. There’s something to add some sparkle to everyone's Christmas.

In the castle

From 30 November, step back in time and experience a 1940s Christmas at Powis. Find out how the family would have celebrated as you explore the State Rooms decorated with ornately dressed Christmas trees, festive family scenes and traditional decorations, all glinting beneath the golden light of chandeliers.

In the rooms occupied by the Welsh Girls School help us make paperchains, snowflakes and paper lanterns as we prepare for a Christmas inspired by the make-do-and-mend world of wartime Britain.

With children's trails and craft activities, there’s plenty to keep the whole family occupied.

The castle is open daily 11am-4pm (last entry 3pm. Closed 25 December).

In the garden

If you’d rather pull on your winter woollies and get outdoors, then blow away the winter cobwebs with a stroll along the Top Terrace or through the Edwardian Formal Garden. Take in the breath-taking view across the Severn valley and admire ancient yews and Italianate terraces; they’re at their most magical with a fine dusting of winter frost.

The garden is open daily 11am-4pm (last entry 3.30pm. Closed 25 December).
