Christmas at Powis Castle and Garden

Did you join us for a ‘Treasured Christmas’ in the castle? Inspired by special items in the collection, each room transported you to a different part of the world or era gone by. There were 16ft trees and festive fireplaces creating a truly magical experiences. There were handmade, felt mice to spot in the castle which were carefully made by staff and volunteers.

Christmas 2023 has now finished at Powis Castle and Garden

See the castle sparkle

See over-the-top Christmas trees, festive fireplaces and beautiful lights transform the 13th century castle into a magical experience. Taking inspiration from the treasures that lie within, each State Room will transport you to a different part of the world. Venetian, Chinese, Elizabethan – there's something special to discover in every corner of the castle this Christmas.

  • The castle's Christmas display is open from 12pm to 4pm between 2 December and 31 December.
  • The castle will be open until the later time of 7pm between 14 and 23 December for a festive lighting display which illuminates the grand walls of the 13th century castle.
  • No pre-booking is required but normal admission prices do apply.
  • Please note photography is not allowed in the castle.

Festive light projections, 14 - 23 December

Enjoy a lighting display which illuminates the walls of the 13th century castle. Step into the courtyard after dusk from the 14 – 23 December and take a moment to enjoy the captivating display. Capture a festive photo before walking up the historic steps into the fully decorated castle for the ‘Treasured Christmas’ experience. The castle will be open until the later time of 7pm.

Winter walks

Pull on your winter woollies and blow away the cobwebs with a stroll in the world-famous Baroque Garden. Winter is the best time to appreciate the garden's architectural beauty. See statues sparkling in the frost along the Italianate Terraces, admire ancient evergreen yew hedges standing proud in the winter sun and walk through the Wilderness where bare branches reveal magnificent views of the 13th-century castle.

  • The garden is open daily throughout December from 10am to 4pm (closed 25 and 26 December).
  • Dogs on short leads are welcome in the garden from 1 September to 28 Feburary.

Indulge in your favourite treats

If you’re feeling peckish or need something to warm you up, there’s plenty of delicious treats and drinks available in the Courtyard Café throughout December. From cakes and mince pies, to festive hot chocolates and afternoon teas, Christmas is the best time to treat yourself.
