Scone of the month
Of course the National Trust is renowned for its scones and last year alone we sold over 70,000 of them at Scotney Castle. We're particularly passionate about them so in addition to our classic fruit and cheese varieties, we bake a scone of the month. Look out for this month's scone when you visit and let us know what you think of it. March's scone is pineapple and salted caramel, give it a try next time you visit.
Why not have a go at baking them yourself at home? Below is February's chocolate orange scone recipe. You can also find all the past few month's recipes on the link at the bottom of this page.
Prosecco cream teas now being served
You can choose to add a touch of sparkle to your cream tea with our prosecco cream tea. As well as your scone, jam, cream and hot drink, you'll receive a mini bottle of chilled prosecco to enjoy. What could be better to celebrate a special occasion at Scotney Castle!
Inspired by Henrietta Hussey's grand tour of Europe, the tearoom have hand-crafted freshly-baked pizza on the menu this summer. Choose from margherita with fresh basil, or ham and mozzarella with rocket - both of which are delicious.
Henrietta was the wife of Edway Hussey III, grandmother of Christopher Hussey. She departed on her grand tour of Europe in the 1840s and enjoyed painting many of the places she visited, including Naples. You can see some of her watercolours on display in the house. You can also see a large painting of Henrietta on the half landing of the stairs in a beautiful black stripy dress.
Plot to plate
We use fresh, seasonal, local produce here at Scotney Castle which is why we use as much produce from our walled garden as possible. With zero food miles you can’t get more local than that. Sometimes we don’t need it all so for a small donation you can take some home too. Just pop into our walled garden to see what's on offer this week.
On busier days, we open the Kiosk too, so if the tea-room is looking busy and you just want to pick up a quick drink and snack on your way in to the garden, then head here. Just opposite the tea-room, you can choose from hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, crisps, snacks and a smaller assortment of our cakes, plus of course ice cream. There are plenty of picnic benches around this area or wander into the garden and find a bench with a view to enjoy your refreshments.
Edwy's Garden Tuck Shop
From Easter, we'll be opening Edwy's Garden Tuck Shop again down at the Old Castle. We'll be selling scoop ice cream, cold drinks and snacks for when you need a quick refreshment stop in the garden. Look out for our new range of ice cream from Jude's ice cream . We're excited to offer you these delicious ice cream cones or tubs, with some classic as well as unusual flavours.
If you have an allergy or intolerance, please speak to a member of our team for advice. We make most of our food here in our busy kitchen, using a wide range of ingredients. Whilst we do our best, we can’t guarantee that any of our products are totally allergen free. We’d love to help you with your choice by telling you about our ingredients. Visited before? Please speak to one of our team as ingredients sometimes change.
Visiting with a dog?
We only allow assistance dogs into the tearoom but there are plenty of tables and chairs outside for you to take a break with your four-legged friend. There are water bowls here, as well as outside the toilets if your dog need a drink too.
Ask for a take-away
If you've enjoyed your scone or slice of cake and would like to take a piece home, just ask. We have takeaway bags available so you can enjoy a taste of Scotney later as well.
