Visiting with your dog

Walking dogs in the Cherry Garden

Dogs and their well-behaved owners are welcome all year round at Ham House and Garden. Follow these guidelines to ensure waggy-tails all round.

Welcoming your four-legged friends to Ham House all year round

Since Autumn 2018 dogs have been allowed at Ham House and Garden all year round. Enjoy a stroll around our formal garden in the crisp autumn air or relax in our cafe and enjoy some of our local produce with your favourite canine friends.

Doggy etiquette

To help you and our other visitors enjoy your visit we have produced the following guidelines:

All dogs please keep your owners on short leads and vice versa.

Dog waste bins are available on site should the need arise.

Short leads and spare dog waste bags are available at Visitor Reception. Ask our lovely Visitor Reception team for doggy treat.

Well-behaved dogs are very welcome in all outside areas, inside our Gift Shop, and on the left-hand side of the Orangery cafe. Only guide dogs are welcome into the house itself.

Tie up points are available outside the toilets and shop while you pop in but we ask dogs are not unattended for more than a moment. If you wish to visit the house, ask a friend to stay with your dog while you stroll through. Staff and volunteers will not be able to keep an eye on your four legged friend.

To keep our lawns perfect for picnics and playing, visitors are asked to keep to the gravel paths where possible.

Local Walks

We hope that you enjoy your walk around Ham House and Garden with your four-legged friends. Why not take advantage of some of the other beautiful walks in the local area before or after your teas and coffees?

We have developed two historical walks which have been tried and sniffed by our Head Gardener's dog. Ask at Visitor Reception for a map of walks in the local area.

We very much look forward to welcoming you and your canine friends to Ham House and Garden soon.
