Treasures in the collection at Petworth

This year the National Trust are celebrating a Year of Treasures with the release of the book 125 Treasures. Discover five of the featured artefacts at Petworth, with many in new displays for up-close viewing along with their fascinating stories from Sat 4 Sep to Fri 26 Nov.

Learning in the landscape

Enjoy yoga, photography and art courses at Petworth Park run by Aspire Sussex from Wed 9 Jun - Sat 25 Sep 2021. Here, you can experience a backdrop of rich countryside with herds of majestic deer roaming around, as you learn from experienced tutors about how to begin or enhance your creative skills.

Dawn to Dusk art exhibition  

Explore the specially commissioned work of Lucy Marks in this exhibition of artwork painted of and in Petworth Park itself. Lucy is a landscape painter, and Associate Member of the Royal Watercolour Society. She focuses on the dramatic and beautiful scenery of land, sky and sea in the UK. Paintings are in oil and watercolour, and are available for purchase. Exhibition entry is free, but please note a ticket is required to enter the House and Garden. Sat 3 Jul – Sun 19 Sep.

Deer rut guided walks

Autumn is the time of year when the fallow deer rut in the park. You can join a two hour guided walk to learn more about this species, what the rut is all about and observe seasonal behaviour, with the chance of watching rutting stags. We recommend bringing binoculars, and there will be an element of hiding and remaining silent. Walks are £5 per person, children free. Booking essential on 01798 342207. Mon 18, Wed 20, Fri 22, Mon 25, Wed 27 & Fri 29 October, 10.30am-12.30pm.

Petworth 'GPS Trees' exhibition by Richard Geraint Evans

Petworth’s ancient trees are a must-see, and their natural beauty has been brought indoors for a new exhibition featuring nine incredibly detailed drawings of different specimens from Petworth, each including GPS coordinates so you can discover the tree for yourself. The exhibition runs from Mon 11 Oct to Sun 5 Dec.

Make a wild art installation

Search out the seasonal colours and different leaf shapes at Petworth that are marked on the colour catcher chart. Collect what you find, then help create a deer shaped wild art installation by attaching your leafy collections to the animal model. Sat 2 Oct to Sun 14 Nov, 10am-4pm. Normal admission applies.

Spot the Pumpkin this October half term

Explore the Pleasure Garden in its autumn glory as you keep an eye out for autumnal harvests during ‘spot the pumpkin’. These very special pumpkins are grown at the nearby Woolbeding Gardens. Mon 25 Oct to Fri 29 Oct, 10am-4pm. Normal admission applies.

With 700 acres to explore, there are endless opportunities for walking at Petworth. In autumn enjoy the striking russet and gold of the leaves from the ancient and veteran trees and hear the crunch of the leaves underfoot on one of these downloadable walks.
