Take a piece of history home with you

We have partnered with local artisans who are bringing Sutton Hoo’s heritage and landscape to life through a bespoke range of crafts created especially for us. Inspired by the exquisite Anglo -Saxon treasures found in the Royal Burial Ground and the natural landscape that surrounds it, you can find your own treasure infused with the tale of this incredible place.

Cyndi Speer artwork inspired by the Sutton Hoo landscape

Cyndi Speer Art

Suffolk based artist Cyndi Speer has produced a range of new paintings inspired by the Sutton Hoo landscape. Drawing on both the wildlife and the history of the site the range includes original oil paintings, prints and cards. These pieces are available exclusively from the Sutton Hoo gift shop.

Leon and Jenny Pettersson Pottery

Leon and Jenny Pettersson have been making ceramics and pottery in Suffolk for over 30 years. For the last 15 years they have been making pottery inspired by local National Trust properties. The Sutton Hoo range they have created has been inspired by the treasures found in the Great Ship Burial and are available exclusively from the Sutton Hoo gift shop.

Carol Banks Jewellery

Carol Banks has produced an exclusive range of silver jewellery for Sutton Hoo in her East Anglian workshop. The collection has been inspired by the handmade beating techniques used by the Anglo-Saxons to create many of the treasures that were discovered in the Great Ship Burial.

Handmade Norfolk Soaps

Made using traditional methods that have been around for thousands of years, these soaps are handmade and use only plant derived oils. Naturally scented, they have been inspired by fragrances of the coast, woodlands and flowers found around East Anglia.

A Taste of History

Master craftsman David Roper of Ganderwick Creations has recreated many of the treasures found in the Great Ship Burial for our High Hall Exhibition displays, but he has also now created a special range of Sutton Hoo inspired chocolate! From belt buckles to helmet pressblechs it’s a perfect taste of history.

Throughout your visit we aim to bring you a flavour of what life was like here through the ages. For a taste of modern day local life, why not choose from our delicious range of produce created by carefully selected local producers, including preserves and chutneys, beer and chocolate?

Second hand book shop

If a trip to Sutton Hoo whets your appetite for a great story, why not head to our second hand bookshop for a browse?  

Located in the old stable block, you’ll be met by one of our team of friendly volunteers who keep it well stocked with a wide range of fiction and nonfiction including biographies, gardening, cooking and the British Isles. So whether you’re looking for escape, inspiration or information, our shelves are packed with treasures, including the odd collectable. 

There’s also a children’s section arranged at the perfect height for little arms to reach, and a selection of CDs, DVDs, sheet music, guides, jigsaw puzzles and old postcards.  

All proceeds from the bookshop go towards vital conservation work here at Sutton Hoo, so we’re always grateful for donations of good quality items. 

The bookshop is open daily, following the same hours as the main site.
