Kyson is a large apartment in Tranmer House; a place of fascinating history. It was here that its former owner, Edith Pretty, ordered the famous Sutton Hoo archaeological dig in which an Anglo-Saxon ship was discovered. You’ll have sweeping views over the burial mounds and the River Deben from the windows of this second-floor apartment. Built in 1910, Kyson is now light and airy with a hint of its former Edwardian elegance retained in the wooden floors and checkered-tiled bathroom.

Walk around the 7th-century Royal Burial Ground before heading into the High Hall exhibition. Here you can discover more about life in Anglo-Saxon England and who we think was buried here, alongside high quality replica treasures and original Anglo-Saxon objects. The ground floor of Tranmer House is open as well, detailing the archaeological investigations which have taken place at Sutton Hoo and the people behind them. As a guest, you'll have free entry to Sutton Hoo and other National Trust places during your stay.

Rendlesham Forest is just a 15-minute drive from here, and the Suffolk coast is also close. Orford Ness National Nature Reserve a 20-minute drive away – a wild and remote shingle spit with an abundance of wildlife and 20th-century military history.

There are two other holiday apartments in Tranmer House, Wilford (sleeps four) and Deben View (sleeps four). Multiple apartments can be booked together for a group stay.

Entrance hall. Sitting room. Kitchen with dining table for six. Super king-size bedroom with 6' bed that can be made into a twin on request. Double bedroom with 5' bed. Twin bedroom. Bathroom with shower attachment (no wall hook). Shower room (cubicle with electric shower) at the end of the hall, adjacent and on the same level as the three bedrooms. There are four steps down to the landing leading to all three bedrooms and the shower room.

Please note: Please note that Sutton Hoo holiday apartments are part of Tranmer House, a converted private Edwardian residence. Tranmer House consists of three holiday apartments, staff accommodation, offices and the visitors’ centre. As such the building may be occupied by other parties at the same time. Being apartments, there may be some noise from other guests coming and going. Kyson is not a stand alone single holiday cottage.

The ground floor of Tranmer House is open to visitors.

Events are held in the restaurant from time to time and some noise may be heard.

Offers: EEZYBIKE (For Riders | EEZYBIKE) has teamed up with the National Trust to offer four fully powered electric bikes that can be rented out during your stay. The bikes are stored and charged within a secure, solar powered e-bike shelter and are suitable for rugged terrain and roads. You can book a bike online for £30 a day but please bring your own helmet. Cycling is not permitted at National Trust Sutton Hoo, but there are plenty of local routes to explore, including Woodbridge, Rendlesham and Orford.
