Celebrating the landmark loan of The Bayeux Tapestry, with British Museum curator Sue Brunning
Join British Museum curator Sue Brunning for an evening talk at the Riverside Theatre, Woodbridge, celebrating the landmark loan of the Bayeux Tapestry to the British Museum, the first time it has returned to England for nearly 1,000 years.
- Booking essential
The Bayeux Tapestry is the most famous artwork to survive from medieval Europe. The 70-metre-long embroidery narrates events leading to the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and the Norman Conquest of England. As the only contemporary visual depiction of these events, it is a witness to history as well as a daringly ambitious undertaking, cinematic in its storytelling and imagery.
Join curator Sue Brunning to discover the incredible story of the Bayeux Tapestry and celebrate its landmark loan to the British Museum this autumn, the first time it has returned to England for nearly 1,000 years.
Doors open at 6.30pm ready for the 45-minute talk to start at 7pm with time for questions. This will be followed by a signing of the books that accompany the exhibition. Copies will be available for purchase on the night.
The nearest car park is at Woodbridge train station, next door to the venue. Parking is free from 6pm.
