Deben View is an elegant first-floor apartment in Tranmer House at Sutton Hoo, a place of fascinating history. This apartment was the living quarters of Edith Pretty, who commissioned the famous archaeological excavation where a remarkable Anglo-Saxon ship was uncovered. With an exclusive wooden balcony facing out towards the Royal Burial Ground, Deben View offers stunning views across the Sutton Hoo landscape. If you have a soft spot for interiors, you’ll appreciate its original features, including period wood panelling in the living area and Edith Pretty’s original marble bathroom.

Walk around the 7th-century Royal Burial Ground before heading into the High Hall exhibition. Here you can discover more about life in Anglo-Saxon England and who we think was buried here, alongside high quality replica treasures and original Anglo-Saxon objects. The ground floor of Tranmer House is open as well, where you can find out about the archaeological investigations which have taken place at Sutton Hoo and the people behind them.

Beyond the Sutton Hoo estate, Rendlesham Forest is just a 15-minute drive away and the Suffolk coast is also nearby. Orford Ness National Nature Reserve is a 20-minute drive away with an abundance of wildlife and fascinating 20th-century military history.

There are two other holiday apartments at Tranmer House, Kyson (sleeps six) and Wilford (sleeps four), which can be booked together for a group stay.
