Summer fun for the family at Calke Abbey
Enjoy playful summer days in Calke's natural, outdoor play areas, where kids can run free and get closer to nature. Get the family together for relaxed days in the Garden of Imagination, or go wild in the brand-new Calke Explore, nestled in the peaceful woodland.
Run wild in the Garden of Imagination
The walled kitchen garden has been transformed in the Garden of Imagination, where you can play games, perform on the theatre, chill out in the sensory area, and lots more!
When you work up an appetite, look out for the pop-up refreshments – or why not kick off your shoes and enjoy a picnic in the long grassy meadow?
The Garden of Imagination is open from Saturday 13 July to Sunday 8 September, 10:30am to 4pm. Non-members will need a garden ticket from the Ticket Office.
Outdoor adventures in Calke Explore
The wait is almost over! The brand-new Calke Explore opens on Saturday 20 July, providing the perfect base for your outdoor adventures this summer. Located in the woodland, you’ll find a new car park, walking and cycling routes, exciting natural play areas, and spaces for refreshment and reflection.
Kids can go wild in the natural, woodland play area, or take part in nature-themed activities to burn off some of that summer energy. We’ll be on hand every day of the school holiday to help you get creative in nature.
Whilst Calke Explore is still a work-in-progress, the new Food and Beverage kiosk will be open for business all summer, with ice creams, coffees (bring your keep cups!) and cold drinks on offer every day. Find out more about all things Calke Explore below.
Come out and play at Calke Abbey
Throughout the summer holidays, we’ll be running lots of activities at Calke Explore to help you burn off some energy! Get your pulse going by joining a race, or take part in a nature-themed challenge to become an Active Champion.
Feeling competitive? Take part in a game of table tennis, or check out your badminton skills on our natural court at Calke Explore. Ever tried making your own shuttlecock? Now you can! Use nature’s materials to create a natural shuttlecock, then take it home and transform it into a bug hotel.
As you enter the Stableyards, you'll discover Calke's adventure playground. Conquer the climbing wall, abseil down the rope and attempt to reach the other side of the monkey bars without letting go!
The playground is great fun for children aged 18 months to 12 years old, as long as they’re supervised by an adult.
Unlimited summer fun
Looking forward to a family day out in our summer play areas? Why not make the fun last all month?
It costs £10.50 for a family ticket into the parkland, but for just £10.50 a month, you can enjoy unlimited summer adventures at Calke. Ask a member of the park entry team for details about a National Trust family membership when you arrive, and start making a year's worth of amazing memories with your little ones.
When you come out and play, it helps us to look after nature so that it can be enjoyed by generations to come. Thank you for your support.
