About 2 High Street
In the centre of Lacock village, this attractive 15th-century cottage is packed full of charm and makes a cosy base for exploring Lacock Abbey and the countryside nearby. You’ll love this little cottage sitting on the high street, and you can’t help but fall for its character, with its exposed timbers and wonky walls, sitting on a street of gorgeous stone, half-timbered and thatched buildings. You might even recognise lots of places nearby as the picturesque village is a popular filming location, featured in a variety of films and period dramas.
You’ll feel the past bursting out of this wonderful cottage as you unlock the front door. The cottage was recently used by the stars of popular costume drama Cranford to relax in between shoots. You can see why they chose this four-bedroom retreat with its wonky wooden window frames, slate floors and low ceilings. Downstairs there’s the comfy sitting room with log burning stove, dining room, downstairs shower room, single bedroom and a kitchen. Head up the winding staircase to the first floor where you’ll find the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom, a twin and single bedroom. Outside, enjoy the paved courtyard garden for al fresco dinners, it’s a beautiful suntrap on bright days.
The pretty shops, cafes and pubs of Lacock village will be on your doorstep when you stay. The village was once a centre for the medieval wool trade and today it still reflects those times with no television aerials or overhead cables to spoil the scene. A little further away you’ll find the town of Chippenham which is less than 10 minutes by car, with its mix of high street and independent shops. If you are looking for a great day trip, less than 15 miles away is the bustling city of Bath. For walks through rolling countryside and prehistoric landscapes visit the Wiltshire downs to the east and Stonehenge to the south.
Staying at this little cottage means you’ll have free access to both Lacock Abbey and The Fox Talbot Museum, the house that was once home to WillIam Henry Fox Talbot, (who invented the photographic negative) just a short stroll from the cottage. And if you’re a film fan as well, then you might recognise Lacock from its appearances in several of the Harry Potter films. Funds from your stay at 2 High Street helps us to care for this special place for everyone, for ever.
