Volunteering at Powis Castle and Garden

Volunteers looking at table

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to volunteer at a medieval Welsh castle and world-famous garden?

Each year, thousands of new volunteers join us to help us care for all the special places you know and love.

Since the National Trust was founded, volunteers have played a hugely important role in bringing our properties and gardens to life. They're some of our strongest supporters and a big part of our team. We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without them.

Current opportunities

We have various volunteering opportunities available, so whether you’re bringing years of skills and knowledge with you, or you're simply keen to try something new, we’d love to meet you.

There are many ways you can join our cause and become a truly valued member of the team. From welcoming visitors into the castle’s ornate state rooms, telling its fascinating stories and showing people around the world-famous garden, to helping us look after the historic items we care for and delivering a welcoming service in the shop and café - there really is something for everyone.

What it's like to volunteer with us

We're firm believers that variety is the spice of life, and so you can try your hand at various different roles if you wish. Every day is a new adventure and volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn something new and be part of Europe’s largest conservation charity. We're always encouraging volunteers to put forward new ideas and help us ensure our visitor offer is nothing short of amazing.

You can also enjoy the following benefits:

  • Free entry to all National Trust properties;
  • Discounts in our shops and tea rooms;
  • Monthly property newsletter to stay updated on latest news;
  • Flexible online rota, so you can choose your days and fit volunteering in around you;
  • Access to advice and information to help you get the most out of your volunteering experience;
  • Travel expenses paid between your home and Powis Castle (up to certain mileage).

What we ask of you

Our volunteers offer a warm welcome to everyone, ensuring visitors have an amazing experience. They make our visitors feel special, inspired, and curious, so they leave feeling amazed and eager to visit again soon.

We're not looking for historians or qualified experts, just friendly, welcoming people who have a genuine interest in Powis Castle and want to help us share its stories, so everyone can enjoy it, for ever.
